چکیده

The transient storage model (TSM) has been widely used in studies of stream solute transport and fate, with an increasing emphasis on reactive solute transport. In this study we perform sensitivity analyses of a conservative TSM and two different reactive solute transport models (RSTM), one that includes first-order decay in the stream and the storage zone, and a second that considers sorption of a reactive solute on streambed sediments. Two previously analyzed data sets are examined with a focus on the reliability of these RSTMs in characterizing stream and storage zone solute reactions. Sensitivities of simulations to parameters within and among reaches, parameter coefficients of variation, and correlation coefficients are computed and analyzed. Our results indicate that (1) simulated values have the greatest sensitivity to parameters within the same reach, (2) simulated values are also sensitive to parameters in reaches immediately upstream and downstream (inter-reach sensitivity), (3) simulated values have decreasing sensitivity to parameters in reaches farther downstream, and (4) in-stream reactive solute data provide adequate data to resolve effective storage zone reaction parameters, given the model formulations. Simulations of reactive solutes are shown to be equally sensitive to transport parameters and effective reaction parameters of the model, evidence of the control of physical transport on reactive solute dynamics. Similar to conservative transport analysis, reactive solute simulations appear to be most sensitive to data collected during the rising and falling limb of the concentration breakthrough curve. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Application of Decline Analysis in Fractured Reservoirs, Field Case Studies

Decline curve analysis has some advantages over transient well test analysis in which it is not required to shut-in the well and also wellbore storage effects do not exist. Few studies have been done on decline curve analysis of naturally fractured reservoirs but there are even some limitations with available models. On the other hand well test could be expensive and in some operational conditi...

Analysis of Transient Rivlin-Ericksen Fluid and Irreversibility of Exothermic Reactive Hydromagnetic Variable Viscosity

This study analyzes the unsteady Rivlin-Ericksen fluid and irreversibility of exponentially temperature dependent variable viscosity of hydromagnetic two-step exothermic chemical reactive flow along the channel axis with walls convective cooling. The non-Newtonian Hele-Shaw flow of Rivlin-Erickson fluid is driven by bimolecular chemical kinetic and unvarying pressure gradient. The reactive flui...

Influences of sudden changes in discharge and physical stream characteristics on transient storage and nitrate uptake in an urban stream

Changes in the physical structure of urban streams can occur abruptly due to flashy high-flow events and subsequently alter stream processes, including transient storage and nitrate uptake. We examined temporal variability in transient storage and nitrate uptake by exploring the effects of altered physical characteristics resulting from a single high-flow event in three reaches of Spring Creek,...

A software tool to assess uncertainty in transient-storage model parameters using Monte Carlo simulations

Researchers and practitioners alike often need to understand and characterize how water and solutes move through a stream in terms of the relative importance of in-stream and near-stream storage and transport processes. In-channel and subsurface storage processes are highly variable in space and time and difficult to measure. Storage estimates are commonly obtained using transient-storage model...
